Accessibility and Availability

Neighborhood

In the 1860's Chestnut Street was an elegant address lined with mansions, including the well-known Breck House. William Mattoon, a wholesale grain dealer divided his lot and opened a new street through the property in 1870. The lots were quickly bought by builders who constructed lavish rowhouses for the cognoscenti who wanted to live close to Springfield's thriving downtown. Over the next twenty years, local builders erected elaborate brick houses, many of which are still standing. Today, Mattoon Street survives as the only street in Western Mass that is lined by historic Victorian townhouses on both sides, and it is a part of the Quadrangle-Mattoon Street Historic District, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974.

Guest Access

You will have full access to the apartment located on the 1st floor. This apartment is located in a Brownstone, which means that you will have neighbors above and below you. The building itself is very quiet and respectful, but we just want to be upfront about this so that nobody thinks that this is a standalone house. It is part of a 4-unit Brownstone on a wonderful historic street.

The unit was above expectations in every way. It had a charming interior, well equipped kitchen, clean, with upscale touches throughout. All you need to bring is food and clothes. The host was ultra responsive throughout the entire stay. The street is a historic street lined with classic brownstones. Would stay again if in Springfield. We stayed for 89 days.
